A Travel Itenary For Your Next Adventure

Hey explorer,

Our last trip to Goa went so well that we immediately fell in love with travelling to such places more. A place with greenery as long as our vision can see, a cool breeze hugging us each minute, and that provides a sense of peace.

Inspired and motivated, we started exploring a place away from all the possible distractions - only we and the peaceful nature with little tourist crowds.

As we went through this hidden gem near Abhapur village in Vijaynagar Taluka, Sabarkantha district in the Land of Legends - Gujarat, it indeed gave us a sense of legends' existence in this state.

Let's look at how you can travel to this hidden gem of Gujarat and witness what I just said.

Why Polo Forest?

Imagine a place away from cities and towns. It is a place spread across hundreds of acres, and all you can see are tall trees appearing green in colour for as long as your eye can see. You discover the old constructions that appear to be temples and shrines fallen apart as you walk into the forest.

Bird chirps welcome you as you go ahead while the river flowing claps against the stones. The next moment, you realize you are there for a treat to enjoy history, nature, peace, and adventure. All together.

Polo Forest is an oasis of peace in the heart of Gujarat. As you start exploring this place, you can't help but feel a connection to the past. The hidden gems of this rich cultural landscape invite you, offering a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Basic Information

History

Picture this. You are wondering at the jaw-dropping beauty of the forest as you walk through the way and see an old building out of nowhere in the middle of the jungle. It is when you realize that this beautiful place was once a part of ruled India, hiding secrets dating back to the 10th century

Polo Forest derives its name from the word "Pol," meaning gate in the local language, and served as a gateway for pilgrims travelling to the temples of Idar. As you cross the ruins of temples and shrines, the story of the past surrounds you, telling tales of a bygone era.

Also, many locals address this forest as the Vijaynagar Forest.

Geography

Have you ever imagined a place that can treat you with peace, adventure, and history simultaneously? Imagine walking in a forest that has decades of record. The more you walk into the site, the more beautiful and appealing it looks.

Nestled in the foothills of the Aravalli Range and spread across 400 square kilometres, Polo Forest offers a mixed landscape, from lush greenery to rocky outcrops. The flowing Harnav River adds to the picturesque beauty, creating a perfect setting that feels like nature's canvas.

As you explore its winding trails, you will encounter a variety of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

Local Culture

There is no other best way to boost the expectations of your visit here than getting in touch with a couple of locals and exploring their lives in their local culture and traditions. People are warm and more welcoming than you could expect a person talking to a stranger.

Engage with the vibrant culture of the Bhil and Garasia tribes. Their traditional dance forms, colourful attire, and folklore take you into a deep cultural world that weaves through the region.

Language Used

The Polo Forest is away from all the main cities and towns, where people understand and communicate English well. Since many rural people live around the forest, they may not be as good in English as they are in their regional language, Gujarati

So, we recommend you learn a few local Gujarati daily phrases, even when Hindi is one of the prominent languages here, to bridge the communication gap.

Climatic Conditions

Although Gujarat is on the shore, the other half of the state is also close to the largest desert in India - The Thar Desert in Rajasthan. Therefore, both cold and warm temperatures play a role in regulating people's lives living here.

The winters are chilly, while the summers are warm. Visit from October to March to get the most out of this destination without any disturbances in your plans due to climatic troubles.
