I am so happy that I recently visited Pondicherry. Although it was a work trip, the other two days of exploring this union territory were enough to document my experiences for pages.

The city was so beautiful while a few beaches failed to impress me. Some were not clean, and some were overcrowded. And that's when I decided, why not explore the hidden beaches when visiting hidden places?

Check out the information I gathered below!

Gujarat

1. Mandvi Beach

Mandvi Beach, situated in Kutch, Gujarat, brags about white sands and calm blue waters. The beach offers a peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by rich local culture and historic structures like the Vijay Vilas Palace. While the calmness of Mandvi Beach helps you relax, the architectural wonders drive you to cultural exploration.

How to get there: Mandvi is well-connected by road. You can fly to Bhuj airport or take a train to Bhuj, 60 km from the beach. Then, you can hire a cab or take a bus to get to Mandvi.

2. Gopnath Beach

Tucked near Bhavnagar, Gopnath Beach offers a quiet environment with golden sands and clear waters. The historic Mahadev Temple adds to the cultural charm of the area, while the hidden nature of Gopnath Beach, along with the ancient temple, creates a unique and peaceful setting for you to balance relaxation and cultural exploration. 

How to get there: Bhavnagar is the nearest major city to Gopnath Beach. You can fly to Bhavnagar Airport or take a road trip from the nearby major cities. From there, you can get on a road journey to Gopnath. 

Maharashtra

3. Shrivardhan Beach

Shrivardhan Beach in the Raigad district is known for its golden sands and beautiful atmosphere, making it a perfect getaway for a peaceful retreat. The less crowded nature, along with its calm surroundings, this beach sets itself apart from others within the state as a place to escape the bustling city life. 

How to get there: You can get to Shrivardhan by road while the nearest railway station is Mangaon, and the closest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

4. Kelshi Beach

Nestled away from well-known tourist circuits, Kelshi Beach offers a quiet retreat with regular golden beach sands and clear blue waters, providing a serene and offbeat experience. The hidden and less-explored nature of Kelshi Beach makes it a hidden gem for you to get some peace and enjoy self-reflection completely away from crowds or a bunch of people. 

How to get there: Kelshi is well-connected by road. The nearest town is Dapoli, and the closest railway station is Khed Railway Station. You must later take a bus or hire a taxi to get to Kelshi Beach. 

Karnataka

5. Gokarna Beach

Gokarna, known for its spiritual significance, has pristine beaches like Om Beach and Kudle Beach. The golden sands and turquoise waters provide a peaceful escape. Gokarna's quieter ambience than the mainstream sites and its spiritual aura gives you a unique beach experience and form a perfect point to relax and absorb peace. 

How to get there: Gokarna has a railway station, and the nearest airport is Goa International Airport. You can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Gokarna from there.

6. Maravanthe Beach

Located near Kundapura, Maravanthe Beach is known for its scenic looks, with the Arabian Sea on one side and the Souparnika River on the other, separated only by a highway. This picturesque setting, where the road runs parallel to the beach and river together, makes Maravanthe a unique and mesmerizing destination.

How to get there: Kundapura is the nearest town. The beach is well-connected by road. The closest railway station is Kundapura Railway Station. Then, you must opt for the bus or hire a taxi to get here. 

Kerala

7. Kizhunna Beach

Located in Kannur, Kizhunna Beach is known for its pristine beauty, with golden sands and crystal-clear blue waters creating a calm, picturesque environment. Kizhunna Beach's less crowded atmosphere and untouched natural beauty make it a hidden gem along Kerala's coastline, perfect for bringing the child within you. 

How to get there: Kannur is the nearest major city with a railway station and airport. And you can reach Kizhunna by road from Kannur.

8. Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach

Situated near Kannur, Muzhappilangad is one of the longest drive-in beaches in Asia, offering a unique combination of coastal beauty and the opportunity for a beach drive. The ability to drive along the shoreline while enjoying the scenic beauty makes Muzhappilangad a unique and adventurous beach destination.

How to get there: Kannur is the nearest city, and you can get to the beach by road. Kannur has both a railway station and an airport for easy travelling. 

Tamil Nadu

9. Dhanushkodi Beach

Dhanushkodi Beach, near Rameswaram, is known for its pretty sea views and historical significance. The beach provides a quiet environment with the remnants of a ghost town. The combination of historical ruins and beautiful nature, with its less crowded atmosphere, makes Dhanushkodi Beach a unique destination.

How to get there: Rameswaram is well-connected by road, rail, and air. From Rameswaram, you can hire a local transport or take a guided tour to reach Dhanushkodi.

10. Manapad Beach

Nestled in the Tuticorin district, Manapad Beach stands out with its black sand and calm surroundings, offering a serene escape from the bustling tourist spots. The unusual black sand and the peaceful atmosphere make Manapad Beach a hidden gem to enjoy a unique and quiet coastal experience like never before. 

How to get there: Tuticorin is the nearest major city with railway station and an airport. You can then reach the beach by road. 

Things To Do on Beaches

While sunbathing and swimming are a few common and well-known beach things adopted widely, check out some of these below to make your beach experience even more memorable and get some peace practically. 

- Sandcastle Building: Question your inner architect and build sandcastles or sculptures. When was the last time you did something more kiddish like this? Get back to your old days and recreate the memories. 
- Beachcombing: Explore the shoreline for seashells, interesting rocks, or other beach treasures. It's the best way to keep yourself busy away from all the real-world problems you are going through. 
- Sunset Watching: Experience the breathtaking beauty of a beach sunset; it's a perfect time for photos and relaxation. Wonder how beautiful nature can be (without any human disturbance). 

Safety Measures

"Even nectar is poison if taken to excess," did you hear of this saying? The same principle applies when going to the beach without proper planning and understanding rules. Even the calm ocean can become a life-eating monster in the blink of an eye. Check a few safety tips below.

- Swim in Designated Areas: Always swim in areas watched by lifeguards. Follow posted signs and flags indicating safe swimming zones.
- Check Water Conditions: Be aware of the current weather conditions and the state of the sea. Avoid swimming in rough waters or during storms.
- Understand Rip Currents: Learn about rip currents and how to identify them. If caught in one, swim parallel to the shore until you can escape the current.
- Supervise Children: Keep a close eye on children and ensure they are within arm's reach when in the water. Use proper flotation devices for non-swimmers.
- Beware of Marine Life: Be cautious of marine life, such as jellyfish, sea urchins, and other potential threats. Check local guidelines for any specific precautions.
