🧐 7 Questions to Ask Yourself Today to

get the most out of every trip you go to - 1

Hey explorer,

I have travelled to many places in all four corners of the country. It might sound like a dream come true, and you may say, "you are lucky." But trust me, it wasn't a piece of cake figuring out which place to visit, nor was the journey as smooth as butter.

It's when, after visiting so many places, I understood I had been into a false loop of travelling. So, here are a few reflective questions to ask yourself so that you will not sit in the false loop like I did without making the most out of your trip.

Hey Hey!

How about we learn something each time we discover a new place or break down the history of a place you might have heard once at least?

Kudos if you answered "Udaipur" to the last question. Let's see if you can get this also right.

If I give you one option to pick from, which one would you choose?

Questions for Better Travel

Q.1 - Am I a Collector or a Connector?

India is a gem for the senses. From bustling bazaars overflowing with textiles to ancient temples telling the stories of forgotten eras, there's a constant temptation to collect experiences. However, are you seeking brief wonder moments or genuine bonds?

Instead of cramming in every sight, consider boosting your connections with locals. Start a conversation with a chai wallah, learn a few phrases of their language, or volunteer at a local NGO. These interactions will leave a deep mark on your soul. While images bring smiles later, these heart-to-heart talks will fill your soul.

Q.2 - Do I Prefer Comfort or Challenge?

India is a land of chaos and unfamiliar customs. Will you seek comfort in the familiar, opting for air-conditioned hotels and curated tours, or will you adopt the challenge of stepping outside your comfort zone?

Consider a homestay in a rural village, take a local bus journey, or try unfamiliar street food. While these experiences might initially push you out of your comfort zone, they can lead to the most rewarding and authentic encounters. It can apply to any of your preferences, from places to transportation.

Q.3 - Am I a Giver or a Taker?

Tourism can be a double-edged sword. While it brings economic benefits, it can also strain local resources and disrupt cultural traditions. Ask yourself: how can you be a responsible tourist?

Opt for eco-friendly accommodations, choose tours that give back to the community, and be mindful of your cultural footprint. Dress well when visiting religious sites, respect local customs, and always know reliable tourism is a two-way street. Ensure whatever you do will not affect the surrounding's purpose and essence of the place.

Q.4 - Am I Seeking Introspection or Inspiration?

Of course, India has many places you can visit without a complete travel itinerary. No matter where you go, they go either into inspiration or self-reflection. Ask yourself: Are you seeking a journey of introspection or inspiration?

If you yearn for self-discovery, consider participating in a yoga retreat, visiting a meditation centre, or engaging in mindfulness practices amidst the serene landscapes. If you seek inspiration, check India's rich artistic heritage or explore the vibrant storytelling traditions of rural India. For me, on-purpose tourism belongs to introspection and entertainment tourism belongs to inspiration.

Q.5 - Am I a Shutterbug or a Storyteller?

It's easy to get caught up in capturing the perfect Instagram shot in today's digital age. But what if you have focused on experiencing the moment instead of focusing on the lens?

Put down the phone occasionally, observe the world, and engage with your senses. Immerse yourself in the noise of a bustling market, feel the sun on your skin as you explore ancient ruins, and enjoy as flavours explode in a traditional Indian meal. These are the memories that will linger long after the photos fade. Or, write a journal of experiences.

Q.6 - Am I a History Buff or a Modern Explorer?

Also, India carries two tourism faces - the cultural world and the modern cities and towns. While historic places calm you down, modern cities can boost your spirits. So, are you a history buff or a modern explorer?

Plan your itinerary according to your preferences. Giving a chance to the travel theme you do not enjoy is still okay to check your tastes, but spending more time there and not enjoying it will affect your experiences. Remember, it's not about what people say and the images posted online, but what you need and feel.

Q.7 - Do I Stick to Fixed Plans or Flexible Flow?

India is full of surprises. Any corner or place you go to will have at least a thing waiting for you. It might be food, people, culture, expectations, and more. So, do you stick with planned itineraries or also see the unexpected?

While some planning is essential, be prepared to go with the flow. A chance encounter with a friendly local might lead you on an unforgettable detour, a sudden temple festival could disrupt your schedule, and the unexpected Indian weather might throw a curveball. Learn to adapt, embrace the unexpected detours, and see them as opportunities for deeper connections.

Final Thoughts

Now, having answered these questions and with open-mindedness, you're ready to get on an unforgettable Indian adventure. Remember, the most impactful journeys are not only about the places you visit but the person you become along the way. So, go forth, explore, and get ready to be surprised by the magic of India.
